what a difference space makes
Unlike the current shelter space, the new building offers privacy to each family served. Rather than having to share a kitchen and bathroom among 50 residents, each family has private space available.
Instead of crowding into tiny, 97 square foot rooms, each family unit has a space that offers healing over the course of their stay, unencumbered by the stressors of communal living in this time of great crisis.
Families can share meals over the kitchen table in peace--a vast improvement over the crowded, shared kitchens in the current shelter.
An increase in over 8,000 square feet of living space for women and children is offered in the new shelter space.
The new shelter offers an increase of 25 beds (50% increase in capacity), and far roomier conditions for families to heal in.
Individual kitchens for each family in the new shelter is a huge improvement over sharing two kitchens among 50 people!
Families will have private bathrooms in each unit--currently 50 women and kids share two communal bathrooms.
The new shelter has built-in desks in most units. The old shelter, with 97 square foot rooms, has no room for desks.
